Paperweight Systems

Paperweight Systems started with a piece of e-waste. I picked up an old mini PC hoping to run AI agents on it, but the hardware didn't come close to the minimum requirements. Most people would have passed it along to the next owner. I wasn't ready to give up on it that easily. It turned out the machine could still stream and broadcast video, even though it couldn't run what I'd originally bought it for. I'm not much of a TV person, so streaming movies wasn't quite the answer, but it got the idea moving. That's when it clicked: hardware other people were throwing away could still do real work, running someone's own service instead of sitting in a landfill or renting space on someone else's servers. Paperweight Systems exists to build software that puts hardware like that back to work, starting with Paperweight, our first product.

01 / Mission

Mission

Put people back in charge of their own software.

Put people back in charge of their own software. That starts with the same instinct that built the first version of Paperweight: take what's overlooked, whether it's an old mini PC or a feature nobody thought to build, and turn it into something real. Every product we ship should leave its users more independent than it found them, owning their data, their tools, and their work.

02 / How we work

01

Software you can trust

Paperweight is self-hosted and yours to run. Other products we build may be paid subscriptions, because some ideas only work as a hosted service, but every one of them is priced honestly and built to actually help, not to trap you into paying for something you don't need.

02

Your data stays yours

Paperweight keeps everything on your own machine. When a product has to live in the cloud to work, we still design it so you can export or delete your data whenever you want, no exceptions.

03

Small and direct

We're a small company, and we like it that way. This started as one person turning a piece of e-waste into something useful, and support, updates, and decisions still come straight from the people who build the software.
