GNOMAD Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 2026
This policy covers the GNOMAD iPhone app and its optional Ubuntu host companion, not the Paperweight Systems website. For the website, see our general privacy policy.
GNOMAD connects your iPhone to an Ubuntu computer you choose, over your local network or a VPN you manage. It does not provide a Paperweight Systems cloud relay or require a GNOMAD account.
Information on your iPhone
Saved host profiles — such as machine names, addresses, ports, and usernames — and app preferences are stored on your device. RDP passwords and optional companion pairing tokens are kept in iOS Keychain. GNOMAD also keeps a local list of recent connection attempts and sessions, including the machine label, time, outcome, and duration; you can clear that history in the app.
Connections to your computer
When you connect, RDP desktop images, keyboard and touch input, and session traffic pass between your iPhone and the host you configured. If you install and pair the optional Ubuntu companion, the app also exchanges requests and responses with that host for supported features such as app discovery, files, and terminal access. Pairing uses a one-time code generated on your computer. These connections do not pass through Paperweight Systems servers.
Your Ubuntu computer, network, and VPN may process or record connection information according to how you configure them. GNOMAD does not control their logs or retention. Do not expose RDP directly to the public internet.
What we do not collect
- GNOMAD does not send your saved hosts, credentials, session history, desktop content, files, or terminal content to Paperweight Systems.
- The app does not include advertising trackers or app analytics, and does not sell your personal information.
External destinations
If you open a link to this website, the source repository on GitHub, or another external destination, that destination may process your visit under its own privacy policy. The website privacy policy explains how this site is hosted and handles visitor data.
Your choices
You choose which computer to save and connect to. You can remove saved machines and clear recent activity in the app. Removing the app removes its local app data; iOS Keychain items may persist across reinstalls depending on iOS behavior. To remove data held or logged by your Ubuntu host or VPN provider, manage those systems separately.
Changes
GNOMAD is in development. We may update this policy as its features change; the date above reflects the latest revision.
